PowerPoint - or why managers suck so muck Pt. II

I already pointed out that i don't have a good opinion about most of the "managers". I wrote, that the roots of the problems are in my opinion at the recruiting-office (see blog below).

Well, sure, if we want to go further we should say that a bad "corporate culture" is the problem-starter 4 just anything, but u can't always change the whole thing.

okay* okay

There's another major ass-kicker: PowerPoint - MS PowerPoint.

All important decisions are - at least at my company - based upon Powerpoint-presentations. (!)

Where have all these .doc-files gone* Where are the papers, which really outlined the problem in DETAIL*

Sure, they are somewhere - well hidden.

I found an article about this: "Powerpoint is Evil"

Here are some excerpts:

"The standard PowerPoint presentation elevates format over content, betraying an attitude of commercialism that turns everything into a sales pitch."

"
The speaker, after all, is making power points with bullets to followers"

"
In a business setting, a PowerPoint slide typically shows 40 words, which is about eight seconds' worth of silent reading material." --> Board-Meetings: max. 16 Slides

"
To sell a product that messes up data with such systematic intensity, Microsoft abandons any pretense of statistical integrity and reasoning."

"The practical conclusions are clear. PowerPoint is a competent slide manager and projector. But rather than supplementing a presentation, it has become a substitute for it. Such misuse ignores the most important rule of speaking: Respect your audience."

I'm not a business man so my point of view can be argued.. Imo the whole world is running a lot faster than some years ago, you are bombed with millions of information each day from the internet, tv, radio, newspaper to the personal/business contacts. The infos just push and push ur brain, but it hasn't got endless capacity...This 21th cent. world won't go slower, it needs u to remember more and more things. On the other hand, now, humans can't resist their thirst for the info. The more simply the info, its quality and content, the more you can memorize. You need simple PPS and not detailed word files, cos if u have to pay attention to a lot detailed stuff, your brain won't have enough power for other things by the afternoon..
You can see the development of the style of CVs...Now u don't want to read a novel, u just wanna check the main abilities of a candidate..Schemes, commerce cvs...you can't get an authentic impression about the guys...not interesting...but u save time with it..
I think that's why all the presentations and the business itself turn to be simple, empty, commerce. And unfortunately, it's not only valid for the business, but all the ways of contacts between human beings..
The whole world itself is a commerce and empty shit.

Nopy?
